The Biggest YouTube Channels, Their Income, And The Opportunities For New YouTubers

This not only means a lot of attention, but also a great income potential.
In this article, I'll introduce the largest international and German YouTube channels and explain what estimates they deserve.
In addition, I am looking into the question of whether it is worth starting as a YouTuber or whether there are better ways to earn money online.

It is relatively easy to compile a list of the largest YouTube channels in the world. YouTube provides statistics on the number of subscribers and video views, which are evaluated by socialblade.com, for example.
This shows really impressive subscriber numbers that are reached by the top channels:
- PewDiePie = 33,680,627 subscribers
- YouTube = 22,679,044
- holasoygerman = 20,810,532
- smosh = 19,577,661
- RihannaVEVO = 15,193,472
- OneDirectionVEVO = 15.073.195
- KatyPerryVEVO = 14.721.287

In the first place, there is a let's player, but there are no other gaming channels behind it. Instead, music and comedy dominate. Lifestyle is also well received.
However, subscribers aren't everything. If you look at the top video views list instead, you'll find a couple of other channels at the top:
- PewDiePie = 7,456,143,199 video views (33,680,627 subscribers)
- emimusic = 7,350,424,149 video views (2,966,438)
- RihannaVEVO = 5,764,669,826 video views (15,193,472)

Here you can see some big differences. PewDiePie only has slightly more video views than music, even though it has more than 11 times as many subscribers. This shows very well that some types of video are more likely to be accessed via the YouTube search than others. Lets players, on the other hand, benefit more from loyal viewers, i.e. subscribers.
DisneyCollectorBR is also interesting. Not only because a lot of video views were achieved here with “relatively” few subscribers. According to socialblade.com, it is also the most successful channel with an estimated 165,700 to 1.3 million euros in revenue per month. More on this below.
Anyone who generally wants to see how the top has developed on YouTube and which channels used to be at the top, just take a look at Wikipedia.
Top YouTuber in Germany
German YouTubers naturally bake smaller rolls. This is due to the lower range, as significantly fewer people speak German than English.
Nevertheless, many large German YouTube channels now have very good numbers:

Again there is a colorful mix of music, comedy and at least 2 lets players.
In terms of video views, music and lets player channels are ahead.
Revenue Estimates
In addition to statistics, Socialblade.com also offers estimates of earnings. However, these are only estimates.
On the one hand, YouTube does not give out any figures in this regard and, on the other hand, there are many sources of income for YouTubers, so there are great fluctuations.
While the top US earner DisneyCollectorBR is supposed to earn between 165,700 to 1.3 million euros per month, the somewhat weird channel Clipsmixxx is ahead for the German channels. Here it should be 16,000 to 128,100 euros.
However, it will not be possible to say exactly and whether it is even within this specified range cannot be checked either.
However, I have listed a few confirmed income examples from YouTubers in an article and also broken down how many video views are probably necessary to be able to make a living from it.
However, it has to be said here that this varies depending on the topic, just like with websites.
Opportunities For Newcomers
Such numbers are of course tempting and many media are increasingly featuring well-known YouTubers and full-bodied proclaiming that anyone can become a YouTube star. And which young person doesn't dream of making a lot of money with lets plays or fun videos?
However, the reality is a little different. In a survey here on the blog, I asked a while ago who has ever made money with videos. You can see the answers of the more than 500 survey participants here:

You can tell from this that most of them have not earned anything with videos. Almost four-fifths have not yet earned anything.
But that's only one side of the coin. Even of those who have made money with videos, many will only have earned a few euros. Only a few can fulfill the dream of big money.
It is also worth taking another look at the statistics from socialblade.com. In the statistics of the top 5,000 YouTube channels worldwide, especially at the bottom of the list, many YouTubers only earn a few euros a month with their videos.
As already written in my article, you need 1-2 million video views per month to be able to make a living from it. Most channels do not achieve that.
If you just want to earn something extra or want some pocket money, fewer video views are of course necessary. However, it is difficult to get to the worthwhile regions, as the competition is getting bigger and bigger.
Aren't Niche Websites More Worthwhile?
If you consider the effort involved in creating videos and the great competition, the question arises as to whether YouTube is the right platform for most people.
You have to produce new videos regularly and you need hundreds of thousands or even millions of video views.
In contrast, niche websites are associated with significantly less effort, require relatively little traffic, and can generate very good income.
With my niche website via tool cases, I now have a monthly income of between 300 and 500 euros, with around 6,000 to 7,000 visitors a month. In December I was even able to break almost the 1,000 euro mark. But that was certainly due to the Christmas shopping.
I only add new content every few months, so that the average workload is now around an hour a month.

Another Disadvantage Than YouTuber
Other factors also play a role. As a YouTuber, you are very much in public and unfortunately, there is always hostility and the level of many comments is not particularly high.
You are also dependent on YouTube. If your channel is blocked, you are at 0. With your websites, you have a lot more control and can also spread the risk over several websites.
