Especially beginners in affiliate marketing ask themselves these questions and I find it very interesting to take a closer look.
That's why I'm going to get to the bottom of this question in my article today and, of course, also report on my own experiences and learnings.
Can You Make Money with an Affiliate Website?

How Much Money Do You Earn with an Affiliate Website Per Visitor, Article, Affiliate Link, and Sale? |
When I started my own business many years ago (in 2006 to be precise), I didn't think about making money with a website. I started as a web designer and only started a blog myself because I wanted to report on my experiences and test a few things before I implement them on customer websites.
But the number of visitors grew and I started to install the first affiliate links. One of the first affiliate programs I used was that of Google AdSense, which still existed back then.
You could advertise AdSense publishers and if they earned something with AdSense, you got a commission. And so one day I got a message in my mailbox that I had just received $ 150 in commission. Of course, that was a moment of happiness that I hadn't expected. But it showed me the potential of affiliate marketing. That was my first real income from affiliate marketing.
Even if the AdSense affiliate program was discontinued shortly afterward, I had noticed what an affiliate website could bring and gradually added more affiliate programs.
Affiliate income has grown over the years and today I can make a very good living from my websites, mostly through affiliate marketing. I have many smaller affiliate websites, but I also use affiliate marketing intensively on my blogs.

You won't get rich overnight with an affiliate website, but if you stick with it and build your website, you can generate a very good income with it.
But how much can you earn with an affiliate website? Is it enough to live on or do you need various websites to make it work?
In the following, I'll go through a few factors that have an impact on affiliate income * and give my examples.
Money Per Visitor
Of course, on an affiliate website, you don't get any revenue directly for the visitors to the website. Affiliate marketing works by referring customers to an online shop, for example. And if they buy something there, you get a percentage commission from it.
But it is also clear that more visitors to your affiliate website are a good basis for earning more.
On my affiliate websites via microphones, the click-through rate on Amazon links was 19.6% in February. An affiliate link was clicked on almost every fifth-page view.
And this click rate is pretty constant for me so that with twice as many page views there will probably be twice as many clicks on affiliate links. This in turn naturally generates more income.
I made about 32 euros per 1,000 visitors on my microphone website in February. This is estimated as Statify only shows the page views and not the number of individual visitors, but when I was still using Google Analytics it was around 1.8 pages per visitor, which speaks for around 5,000 visitors in February.
On my projector website, it is around 18 euros per 1,000 visitors.
So you can see here that it varies from website to website and also depends heavily on the type of visitors you attract to your affiliate website. If they already have a strong buying interest, more of them will click on affiliate links and then buy something.
And of course, it also depends on the installation of the affiliate links and how conspicuous they are.
Money Per Item
The earnings per article are also exciting because beginners often think they have to write a lot, a lot of articles to earn something.
But that's not true, as my niche websites show. These are especially small affiliate websites that have relatively little content. Often only 20-30 pages. My projector website has just 20 articles, plus 6 pages (2 of which are the imprint and the privacy policy). I earned an average of around 4 euros per page/article in February.
On my microphone website, the value is also in this area, which I find interesting.
Of course, there will be differences here too, depending on how you set up your affiliate website. If you rely on a few long articles that contain many affiliate links, the income per page/article will increase. If you do it more like me and publish shorter articles, the income per page/article decreases. Therefore, this value is not necessarily so well suited for making comparisons.
By the way, you can of course not only earn money with affiliate programs on an affiliate website. So I use the VG Wort tracking pixels on my affiliate websites because I wrote the texts myself.
And if you consider that at least some of the articles are viewed 1,500 times or more per year, then it's worth it. After all, last year there was 30 euros per article that reached this limit.
Money Per Affiliate Link
The evaluation becomes even more difficult if you look at the income per affiliate link. Of course, on the one hand, it helps the click rate if you include a relatively large number of affiliate links in your texts. The visitors simply click on it more often.
However, you shouldn't overdo it, because that not only scares off visitors but also Google. I add 3-5 affiliate links per article (which has around 500 words). On a bestseller page there are, of course, significantly more, and often less in a background article.
But if we assume 4 affiliate links per article/page, then it is an income of around one euro per affiliate link per month in my two examples above.
Money Per Sale
The most precise way to say it is what you earn per sale. To do this, you simply have to look at your affiliate statistics for the partner programs used.
Since I only use the Amazon partner program on my microphone page, it is very easy to find out how much I earn on average per sale there. The conversion rate was around 4% in February, which is not great. In December it was still over 6%. In February I earned around 2.50 euros per sale.
That also varies from website to website. The conversion rate for my projector website was around 6.5% in February and I earned around 2 euros per sale there.
But these are also values that may look different on other websites. Depending on the products advertised, you earn different amounts. Those who primarily advertise cheap products will not earn much per sale but will make a lot of sales and therefore earn well overall. Those who advertise expensive products, on the other hand, earn well per sale but don't make that many sales per month.
In addition, there are seasonal fluctuations. On my board game blog, where I use affiliate marketing intensively, I had the most visitors so far in December (170,000-page impressions) because the Christmas business works very well there.
With a click rate on Amazon affiliate links of 16% and a conversion rate in the Amazon shop of 15.1%, the values in December were very good. And although I only earned around 1 euro per sale (card and board games are not that expensive), I made very good money overall.

How Many Visitors Does It Take to Make Money from Affiliate Marketing?
It is therefore difficult to consider individual factors in isolation when it comes to affiliate websites. Instead, it is important to make an overall assessment. Of course, it helps if you have several affiliate websites that you can compare with each other.
From my experience, I can say that you usually need between 3,000 and 5,000 visitors per month to earn 100 euros with affiliate marketing. But that's just a rough guide.
How Long Does It Take To Make Money From Affiliate Marketing?
In this article, I have shared my experiences with how long it takes to make money with an affiliate website.
Here, too, it must be noted that there cannot be any concrete statements, as the commitment of the affiliate is important in addition to the website itself. Those who invest more time and work in their affiliate website also earn good money faster with it.
A survey is currently running there and accordingly, around 60% of the survey participants do not yet earn any money. For around 10% it took a year, for 6% between 6 and 12 months. Only 6% made instant money from their affiliate website.
Conclusion
You can make very good money with an affiliate website, but it takes time and you have to put in a lot of work.
What are your experiences with it and how much do you earn with your affiliate website per visitor, article, affiliate link, and sale?
