- To be successful as a self-employed is certainly not easy and not a sure-fire success on the Internet either. Nevertheless, it is often due to the self-employed that the success does not materialize.

In the following, I list 8 excuses that I hear again and again and give tips on how you can still be successful.

I've heard the following excuses before. Again and again, I try to refute this and give tips on how to get started anyway.

The main problem is that many use these statements to justify not getting started. This is guaranteed not to be successful.


1. I Have No Time

One of the great classics among the excuses of unsuccessful self-employed. Time is of course a rare commodity, especially if you want to set up a part-time business.

But most of them should think about how much time they spend in front of the television, watching YouTube videos, or in the beer garden. Of course, you should have free time, but you also have to make compromises.

Almost everyone can find time for their independence if they just want to.


2. All Good Ideas are Already Gone

This is a problem that often occurs with inexperienced beginners. You see the existing projects, websites, or whatever and you don't know what else you can offer better.

It's also not uncommon for beginners to think that way, because how should they know better? But the reality is that there are still many, many ideas that have not been implemented at all or only poorly. And new ones are added every day.

To recognize this, however, you first have to be familiar with an industry and gain experience. Then you can also see the potential.

By the way, I keep hearing the same excuse regarding domains and niches. But that's nonsense too. It's never too late and you can still be successful today.


3. Customers Just Don't Buy From Me

If an online shop does not work or if you simply cannot find customers for your services, many unsuccessful self-employed only blame the customers for it.

They just don't buy or they are so stingy that you simply cannot be successful.

In my experience, however, in most cases, this is just an excuse. As a self-employed person, you should first work on yourself, analyze your services and prices and try to find out what the customers want. Most of the time, the reasons lie in unsuitable and bad offers.


4. I Don't Know Enough Yet / Don't Have Enough Experience

One of the others does not even get started because there is allegedly a lack of experience and know-how.

Apart from the fact that you can acquire this to a certain extent through books and other media, you only become really good through practical experience.

All successful self-employed people have started and gained practical experience and knowledge. That is just part of it. So don't let that put you off.


5. I Don't Want to Do Anything for FREE

I've heard this excuse a lot lately. Get started, yes, but with the guarantee that you will be successful.

I can understand why you don't want to invest dozens of hours in something that doesn't work out in the end, but that doesn't mean you wasted your time. I have often learned more from failed projects than from successful ones.

With every project, regardless of whether it is a long-term success, you get better and gain important experience.

Also, the thing is, there are no guarantees. Anyone looking for this should not go into self-employment.


6. I Do Not Have Enough Money

In the past, you needed start-up capital for self-employment. Today it looks different in many areas.

Those who set up a business part-time on the Internet often don't even need any money to get started. This is a big plus, but it shouldn't be overdone either. Over time, it just pays off to take some money into your hand, for example, to save time.

In general, little equity should not be an obstacle to setting up a business nowadays.


7. I Have to Plan More

I'm not a fan of starting my own business without any planning, but many just overdo it.

You feel very comfortable in the planning phase because nothing can go wrong. But of course, you don't make any progress either and you just waste valuable time.

Therefore, the implementation should begin after a compact planning phase, because only then can you be successful.


8. I Do Not Know How I Should Begin

I read and hear this excuse very often. The basic will is there, but it doesn't get started.

This excuse is partly a combination of other excuses. You don't trust it and you don't want to work for free.

But I can only say that starting (and persevering) is the alpha and omega of successful self-employed. Ideas and plans are worthless if you don't put them into practice.

And can you fail with an idea? Of course, but with the next idea, you already know so much more.

Overcome Your Weaker Self

With many of the excuses, only the inner weaker self speaks, which these people cannot overcome.

Unfortunately, there is no silver bullet for it. All I can say is that you won't be successful if you don't beat that weaker self. But over time it will be a lot easier, I can promise.

Anyone who becomes self-employed can fail, no question about it.

But if you don't even get started, you will not be successful.
