As a self-employed person, you can earn a lot of money. That's right. If you are good at what you do and enjoy dealing with people, the chances for the self-employed are not bad to earn more month after month than just make ends meet.

At least this should be the goal of every self-employed person. Because if you throw yourself into work 12 hours a day and also at the weekend, this effort should at least be reflected in your wallet at some point.

Unfortunately, however, many self-employed people concentrate solely on one activity. This is usually a service in which the self-employed sell their physical and/or mental capabilities. The problem here is that income is only generated if you work.

I used to create or work on new websites for clients as a web designer. As long as I was working, I was making money. But as soon as I stopped working on these customer projects, no more money came in.

This is usually not a problem, but there is a certain risk involved. And this risk is greater than many self-employed people are willing to admit.

Loss Of Income For The Self-Employed

Unfortunately, what many do not consider is the fact that in the event of illness or accident, no health insurance company will cover their loss of wages. But what happens if you fail and cannot work? 0 hours of work = 0 hourly pay.

More self-employed people fall into this trap than you might think. As long as you are young and healthy, everything looks okay, but if you fail, and maybe even more often, it gets tight.

Of course, there are private supplementary health insurances that pay a daily sickness allowance. However, these are often not affordable for a “fresh” self-employed person, at least if you want payments from the first day of absence. And so it can happen faster than one would like that there is no income and one gets into financial difficulties.

Continued payment of wages for the self-employed?

As a rule, it is only worthwhile for the self-employed to take out daily sickness allowance insurance that pays from the 28th day or later. And who has had the flu for 28 days or more? So this only includes really serious illnesses or injuries and then you have other problems anyway.

For example, I have such a daily sickness allowance insurance to cover the "worst-case". So that my existence is not endangered if I cannot work for months. But nobody pays the self-employed person for a few days or 1-2 weeks and then it takes revenge if you have not built up a “permanent income”.

Permanent Income - Earn Money Without Working!

Permanent income is simply the description for sources of income that are relatively independent of whether I work or not. At least for a certain time. Such permanent sources of income are of course not that easy to develop, but the Internet, in particular, offers many opportunities here.

I think of it in a similar way to Google with its employees. Google requires its creative people to work 70% of their working time on current Google core projects, 20% on Google projects that break new ground, and 10% on completely different things.

Of course, I don't stick to these percentages very closely, but even back then as a web designer, I tried to establish other projects, such as this blog, in addition to the core web design business for my customers (because this income made up the majority of my bills at the time). And even if at the time it seemed as if I could rather invest the time I used to blog in something that brings me money faster, it has paid off in the long term. Today I only make a living from my blogs and websites.

I pay special attention to projects that, once started, can be continued with relatively little effort. This includes, of course, the so-called niche websites, which are created once and later require relatively little maintenance.

There have been a few phases in the past where I could hardly blog due to illness but still made good money. Of course, this source of income also decreases after a while and does not last forever without further work. Individual short downtimes can be bridged well with this.

My eBook, for example, has been generating very good income for years. So far I've revised it twice, but then I don't need to do anything for months or even 1-2 years and still earn four-digit numbers every month.

And in doing so, I also tried to build up various pillars to further spread the risk.

Invest In Sustainable Income Streams

Therefore, my recommendation can only be that you should try to develop other sources of income in addition to your daily business. Ideally, of course, this has to do with your existing know-how and can be started with relatively little effort. If things get off to a good start, it is worth investing more work into building up these income streams.

For me, the permanent sources of income now make up almost 100% of the total income. Be it my eBook, various partner programs (whereby the lifetime partner programs, in particular, bring permanent income), or advertisements. If I didn't blog for a month or two, it would hardly affect my earnings. With my affiliate/niche websites, this is even more passive. It is not for nothing that we speak of passive income here.

Examples Of Sustained Income Streams

Here are a few ideas for permanent income on the Internet that self-employed or part-time workers can use.

Write and sell an e-book
Long-term advertising deals on your websites
Rental of web space to customers
Affiliate programs with lifetime remuneration on their websites
Link rental *, although this is not welcomed by Google
Programming of software and provision for a fee or advertising-financed (although support is of course necessary here)
Development of a wide-reaching YouTube channel with many videos
Use of VG Wort in your high-traffic blogs and websites
and much more.

These are just a few and not even particularly original ideas. What these ideas have in common is that you have a certain amount of effort to create at the beginning and then little or no maintenance effort later. Or at least that you don't have to do anything for a while and the income continues to flow.

A good example from the offline world is a book author. Once a book has been written, the author regularly earns money for years afterward. Provided, of course, that the book is good and relatively timeless.

Take a look around your industry and analyze your work. So you can find good ways to build such lasting streams of income. Most of them will find one or the other lucrative idea.
