It was about whether you can make money with a blog and if so, how long it will take.
There was also a survey among my readers, which I would like to evaluate below.

There are many ways to start your own business online. These variants have advantages and disadvantages that you should be aware of.
Above all, however, the chosen business model must match your interests and skills. So if you start a blog to earn good money at some point, you should be very happy to write and decide on a topic that you love and with which you can make money.
Again and again, I read from other self-employed people on the net that it is not worth blogging, which of course is nonsense. Just because it's taking too long or you're just not the type for it doesn't mean it's not worth it for anyone.
As written in my article at the time, I would still start a blog today if I started over. Sure, I would do one thing or the other difference this time, but basically, I'm satisfied with my decisions, happy as a blogger, and successful.
Your Opinion
I asked you in a small vote whether you still consider blogging to be a sensible business model. At least 167 readers took part in this vote and gave their opinion on it.
You can see the result below.
Is blogging still a good business model today?
- Yes, but it takes a long time to make a living from it. (66%, 111 votes)
- Yes, and those who like to write quickly have success. (11%, 18 votes)
- No, I think the time to build a big blog is over. (11%, 18 votes)
- I would prefer to use social media or videos. (7%, 11 votes)
- I have no idea. (5%, 9 votes)
Number of participants: 167 (1 vote)
I think the result is pretty clear. Two-thirds of the participants think that blogging is a sensible business model. However, they also believe that it takes a long time before a blog can make a living.
That coincides with my experience. After all, I started my blog in 2007 and ran it on the side, but wasn't able to make a living from it until many years later. Only gradually did the income increase, it didn’t happen overnight.
It may be that a blog now generates higher revenues faster if you invest 100% of the time in it from the start, but who can afford that? The nice thing about a blog later, however, is that you have so much content, regular readers, backlinks, and trust on Google that it is a very stable business.
11%, on the other hand, believe that you can achieve success very quickly if you enjoy writing. I don't want to rule that out, but my experiences, as just described, are different. I would rather count niche websites as one of the business models where you can make good money quickly.
Another 11% have a completely different view and believe that the days of big blogs are over. You wouldn't be building a blog today because it's not worth it. It is difficult to say exactly where the reasons for this opinion came from. Perhaps you are one of those who think that all good topics have already been covered. Of course, this is not the case and even then there is often still an opportunity to be better than the existing blogs and websites. But also the great competition from Facebook and Co. is sure to deter one or the other.
7% prefer to use social media or YouTube. That's less than I expected.
5% admit that they don't know whether a blog will still be a good business model in the future. Some things you just have to find out for yourself. What works for one does not necessarily have to work for the other.
Conclusion
However, blogging is certainly not the right business model for everyone. It has to be up to you and of course, it also depends on the choice of topic/niche.
Nevertheless, I am convinced that blogs can be successful even in times of Facebook, YouTube, and Co. My income reports on German and international blogs have only just shown that. Among them were some quite young blogs that have already made very good money.
So if you love to write and have perseverance and tenacity, you have a good chance of being able to make a living from your blog at some point.
Do you earn more than the minimum wage of 8.50 euros per hour?
- Yes, a lot more. (49%, 76 votes)
- Unfortunately less. (33%, 51 votes)
- Yes, a little more. (11%, 17 votes)
- Pretty much as much. (8%, 12 votes)
