Few Can Make A Living From Their Websites ... And How Long It Took Me - Many people dream of being able to make a living from their websites. But how difficult is it?

I'm looking at a survey in this article that I did on my blog. I find the results very interesting.

You will also find out how long it took me to make a living from my blogs and websites.

If you look around the web, you quickly notice that it is not so easy to make a lot of money with websites either.

Many a “guru” promises this, but the reality is that you have to invest a lot of time and work online to make good money.

To find out from my readers whether they can make a living from their websites, I conducted a survey in which 113 readers took part. I will evaluate the result below.

Survey Evaluation

The survey offered a total of 6 possible answers and you can see the result here:

  • No, there is still a lot missing. (47%, 53 votes)

  • I haven't had any website income worth mentioning yet. (17%, 19 votes)

  • Yes, and very well. (15%, 17 votes)

  • Yes, but just like that. (9%, 10 votes)

  • No, not quite yet. (6%, 7 votes)

  • I don't have any websites. (6%, 7 votes)

Number of participants: 113 (1 vote)

47% of the survey participants indicated that they already earn something with their websites, but that there is still a lot missing to be able to make a living from it.

But I find that quite encouraging. After all, almost half of the participants already have income, even if this is not yet enough to make a living. For example, niche websites are a good way to earn something on the side, and later you can expand these websites further to increase the income. But several websites can also make a living together. But that cannot be achieved by the way and also not overnight.

17% have not yet generated any significant income from their websites. For one thing, I think that's a relatively small proportion. On the other hand, the evaluation of this statement depends heavily on the age of the website and how much work you have already put into it. If the website is fairly new, it is normal that not much has been dropped. However, if it is already several years old and you have invested a lot of time in the website, then you should examine more closely what the problem is.

After all, 15% said that they can make a living from their websites and that they do it very well. I think that's a fair amount and a good motivation for everyone else. It is possible.

Another 9% can make a living from their websites, but just barely. Here, of course, it depends on your ideas what a “good income” is, but here too I would say that this is a great success. Once you get to that point, you can go on, expand your websites and open up new sources of income. Many would like to be at this point.

6% are well on their way there, but cannot quite make a living from their websites yet. Most of the time, such projects started as part-time jobs and gradually grew. It is a good feeling when at some point you can quit your normal job to just take care of your websites.

6% of the survey participants do not even have their website. Then of course it becomes difficult with online income, although nowadays you can also earn good money on Facebook or YouTube, for example.

Being Self-Employed On The Internet Is Hard Work

For me, an important finding from this survey is that being self-employed on the internet is hard work. I keep receiving emails in which someone asks me how to make money quickly and easily on the Internet. Of course, pocket money is earned quite quickly, but not significant and permanent income.

Just like in real life, it takes time and works to build stable sources of income. Whether this is the construction of a blog, which is a lot of work, or whether these are various affiliate websites that are also not created overnight, only those who have perseverance and perseverance will be successful.

But that's also the good thing about it because many are not willing to invest enough time and work. So if you stick with it and bite your way through, you can beat 90% of the others.

By the way, a good way to start as a beginner is the niche page challenge that is currently running. Here you will learn step by step how to create your first small website and earn money with it.

How Long It Took Me To Make A Living From My Websites

I have been self-employed since 2006 and started this blog here in February 2007. That was more than 11 years ago.

In the first few months, I earned next to nothing with it, although that wasn't my main goal at the time. It was only after a few months that I realized that you can make good money with Google AdSense and affiliate programs. After almost half a year, I had the first noteworthy income. With AdSense, I made just under 60 euros, which was great.

Another milestone was the AdSense affiliate program, which still existed back then. In October 2007 I earned almost 180 euros in one fell swoop. Other sources of income were added. That's how I published paid articles and built-in advertising.

However, I was only able to make a living from my blogs and websites after a good 3 years. At least then I had enough income that it would just have been enough. But I continued to look after web design clients for a few years and it wasn't until 4-5 years ago that I switched completely to income from my blogs and websites.

In my example, you can see 2 things in particular. Nothing goes overnight. It also took me a long time to build something up and even longer to be able to make a living from it.

However, in the beginning, I did not run my blog to make money. If I would start again today, it would certainly go faster to get a higher income.

So on the one hand you need perseverance and perseverance, but you also have to work consistently on your websites and operate them professionally.

What Was It Like With You?

I would be very interested to know how it was with you.

  • How long did it take you to start earning significant income from your websites?

  • And how long did it take to make a living from your websites?

I think it is extremely important not to create false expectations. Realistic examples, on the other hand, really motivate and show possibilities.
