It's time again for a detailed series of articles. This time it's about creating your own eBook and what you have to consider.
It will be a very detailed series because my rough planning already contains 17 chapters. But of course I would also like to go into all the important steps in detail and not only describe my own approach, but also present other options and opinions.
Why Write An eBook At All?

But first the question arises, why should you write an eBook at all? After all, it's a lot of effort and a lot of work without knowing exactly how well the eBook will sell.
- On the one hand, it is different to publish an eBook than “just” blog articles or the like. You have more or less something in your hand that you can show to others.
- Your own eBook helps you to make a name for yourself and to make new contacts. It also increases your own image because it is something special.
- With an eBook you can help other people and build loyal fans and supporters.
- Of course you can also make money from an eBook and if you do it right it can lead to a permanent income.
But of course you have to leave the church in the village and not rush to the keyboard with dollar signs in your eyes. There is no guarantee of success, and certainly not of great financial returns. There is always a certain risk involved in writing an eBook, but which one can be minimized.
It should also be remembered that it is an important experience and there is a lot to learn from it.
Why Aren't More People Writing e-books?

That's a good question, and there are several answers to it. Many shy away from the effort involved in creating an eBook. After all, you invest a lot of time in an eBook before you can benefit from it in one way or another.
Others, on the other hand, fear the public, as one often applies different standards and expectations to an eBook than, for example, to blog articles. Especially when the eBook costs money, many readers are understandably more critical.
There are many eBooks out there that are rubbish or overpriced, but of course that is also a chance to stand out in a positive way.
However, certain legal requirements and risks when selling eBooks also deter some. Unfortunately, Germany is not the easiest place when it comes to that.
All of these concerns are justified, but can be overcome with various measures and best practices. Writing an eBook is certainly not the best way for everyone, but many self-employed people on the Internet can benefit from it.
My Experiences

I myself have been thinking about writing and publishing an eBook for a long time. For a long time, however, the plan remained.
There were several reasons for this. On the one hand, I was more than busy with my blogs and websites, so that writing an eBook on the side was not so high on my priority list for a long time.
I also wanted to find a really suitable topic for my first eBook in order to increase the chances of success. The right topic was then found with the niche site challenge.
The positive effects of a deadline should not be underestimated. If you don't have a deadline by which the eBook has to be finished, then you like to postpone the work. But since I had announced that the eBook would be released on time for the 2015 Niche Site Challenge, that naturally put me under pressure. That helped me to get going.
The last point that held me back for a long time was the legal aspects. However, I then found a solution that got rid of the problem. And once you take a closer look at the legal requirements, they also lose their horror.
So it was finally time at the beginning of 2015 that I published my first eBook. It was preceded by a tough couple of months, but it was also fun as I watched the eBook grow. I have had very good experiences with this.
And it was also financially worthwhile, as I've now earned more than 12,000 euros with it.
This is What You Can Expect in The Series of Articles

As already written, it will be a fairly extensive series of articles since I have already planned 17 chapters. In the end, one or the other can be added or dropped, but things will go in that direction.
In the course of each part, I will answer the following questions, among others:
- How do you find a good idea or topic for an eBook?
- How do you plan an eBook?
- How do you write an eBook and cope with it?
- What obstacles and mistakes need to be avoided?
- What software do you use to write an eBook?
- What is the best way to design an eBook?
- Which price is the right one?
- What should the landing page / sales page look like?
- Sell on your own website or an eBook platform?
- Which measures ensure more sales?
- Which legal things have to be observed?
- and more...
I will of course give a lot of practical tips, describe my own experiences and let other eBook authors have their say.
