How Much Money Do You Make With An eBook Per Page and Reader?

And I have also had very good experiences with my own eBook. Unfortunately, it is not that easy to write an eBook and then sell many copies of it. So today I'm going to talk about how much you can earn with an eBook per page and per reader.

Can You Really Make Money With An eBook?

I myself have had very good experiences with my niche page building e-book, which I have been selling for several years and which will be published shortly in time for the next niche page challenge in the 4th edition.

To date, I've been able to generate over 100,000 euros in sales with the eBook, which means almost 90,000 euros in net income. The example shows very well that the potential for eBooks is definitely there.

But of course that doesn't work overnight. You have to put a lot of work into writing an eBook, and marketing also takes time. That's why I'll take a look below at how much money you can make with an eBook per page and reader.

How Much Do You Earn With An eBook Per Page and Reader?

Basically, it has to be said that the eBook market is booming. Current statistics show that almost 33 million eBooks were sold in Germany in 2018 alone. Most of them are of course novels, but specialist eBooks are also being bought more and more frequently.

Money Per Reader

The income per buyer (i.e. reader) of my eBook is quite easy to calculate. My eBook costs 27 euros including VAT at Digistore24 and I only sell it there. After deduction of sales tax and the fee for Digistore24, a little more than 19 euros per buyer remain, which I get paid.

However, if the sale takes place through one of my affiliates, then another 30% will be deducted and there will be a good 13.50 euros left for me.

However, I sell the majority of the eBooks myself, so that only 10% of all sales take place through affiliates. So that makes an average of almost 19 euros per reader, which is very decent.

According to the statistics mentioned above, there is a total of around 6 euros gross per eBook on the market, which is mainly due to the fact that literature in particular is often significantly cheaper as an eBook. At Amazon, the prices for novels are often 2.99 euros, because the competition there is simply very fierce.

Accordingly, you earn less there. In addition, Amazon only pays out 70% of the net price to the authors if the eBook price is between EUR 2.99 and EUR 9.99. If the price is lower or higher, it is only 35%.

If we set a price of 4.99 euros for a specialist book on Amazon, then it is net income of around 2.90 euros per buyer. That's relatively little, but hopefully more copies will be sold thanks to Amazon's large reach.

Money Per eBook Page

The number of pages in an eBook certainly plays a role in the purchase decision. Whether you pay 20 euros for 50 or 200 pages is sure to make a difference. There are a good number of potential buyers who are more willing to pay that amount for 200 pages.

On the other hand, there is no concrete correlation between the number of pages and eBook sales, and even with my eBook I can't really judge what it would look like with a different page number. However, my eBook has gotten thicker with every new edition.

While there were 171 pages in the 1st edition, the upcoming 4th edition has 238 pages, which is significantly more.

If we assume the average of 200 pages and around 19 euros in income for me per eBook sold, then I earn around 9.5 cents per page. This is a value that can only be achieved with a specialist eBook. Novel eBooks usually go for significantly lower amounts over the virtual counter.

Accordingly, the income per page drops significantly there. With 200 pages and a retail price of 4.99 euros on Amazon, that would be 1.5 cents per page. And many novels are much thicker and cost less.

Ideally, this will be compensated for by more e-books sold, since the reader potential on Amazon is of course very large. However, the competition is also very strong and it is not easy to land a bestseller there.

Is an eBook worth it?

One page of my eBook contains around 300-400 words. A typical article like this one is about 1,000 words in length. So let's roughly say that 3 eBook pages roughly correspond to one of my blog articles.

3 pages of my eBook bring me around 28 cents per buyer. If I extrapolate this to the average sales of the eBook per year, then the three pages (i.e. about one article) bring in around 240 euros per year.

A blog article on my blog, on the other hand, will bring me in at best around 50 euros. This already includes the fact that I earn something with the article through affiliate marketing and advertising, as well as the remuneration from VG Wort.

This is just a rough calculation, of course, and some blog articles perform much, much better than others. But the example still shows that the content in the eBook is much more financially worthwhile for me than individual blog articles.

Of course, I have significantly more blog articles overall than the content in the eBook and that leads to far higher income in the blog than with the eBook. But if you just break it down to the number of words, an eBook is more worthwhile. That is also a reason why I finally want to implement my plan to publish more eBooks.

However, of course, the eBook benefits a lot from the reach of my blog and therefore from the blog content. A good part of the income from the eBook could therefore be attributed to the blog content, but that would lead too far.

Quite a few online courses or video tutorials cost three-digit amounts and many users are willing to spend this. In this respect, it is interesting to consider whether you can also offer a suitable video course in addition to your own eBook, because there is certainly a completely different target group for this.

But it has to suit you and I prefer to write rather than record videos. And I just want to have fun at work, money isn't everything.
