HanifMR.com - How Much Money Do You Make On A Blog Per Article, Pageview, and Comment? There are many ways to make money from blogs, but how much do you make from a blog anyway? Are there general guidelines for typical revenue per article, page views, and comments?

In this article, I take a closer look at my blogs and others and analyze how much you can earn with a blog.

Make Quick Money On A Blog?

I've blogged for more than 12 years and have been making a living from it for quite some time. But I haven't made money quickly with my blogs. It took years to make a living from it. Therefore, as a warning in advance: If you want to start a blog, you should bring passion, perseverance, and discipline.

Especially in the beginning, you will only write for a relatively small number of readers and therefore hardly earn any money.

If you monetize a blog well and quickly acquire the first readers, you can achieve a three-digit income after a few months, but you certainly won't get rich that quickly.

Building a blog takes time. It is important to publish articles regularly and look for a niche that is not (or only poorly) occupied. In this way, you will gradually attract new readers, which also enables better monetization. Many different sources of income are possible in a blog, such as affiliate marketing, Google AdSense, paid articles, advertising, your products, and much more.

But which blog metrics does the amount of revenue depend on? I will try to get to the bottom of this question below.

How Much Money Per Article?

Of course, you don't get any direct remuneration per article if you run your blog. After all, unlike a YouTube channel, a blog is an independent platform, and blogs are very different.

So there is no general value of what you can earn as a blogger per article. That depends too much on the topic, the range, your optimizations, and so on.

There are 100 articles on a blog, and the blog is making $ 1,000 a month. Then an article would bring in an average of 10 euros. But this is only partially the case because if you look at the number of views of your articles, some articles have many, others almost no views. The income that can be achieved on an article, e.g. with Google AdSense, is correspondingly different.

However, one source of income is relatively easy to define, and that is the VG Wort. For every article with at least 1,800 characters (including spaces) extended and has at least 1,500 hits in a calendar year, you currently receive 35 euros net from VG Wort. (Of course, you have to register with VG Wort and install the tracking pixels.)

Experience has shown, of course, that not all articles in a blog achieve this number of views, and the article is not always that long. Nevertheless, the VG Wort remuneration is now a significant additional income for many bloggers.

How Much Money Per Page View?

Earnings per 1,000 page views are somewhat easier to define. Of course, these fluctuate from blog to blog and depend on many factors, but this value is a little more comparable.

I recently compared several food blogs and some of these listed page views as well as earnings.

In March 2019, a blog earned $16,296.14 with 222,581 page views. That's $73.21 in revenue for every 1,000 page views. That is quite a high value.

Another blog made $1,089.56 on 69,399 page views. That's $15.7 per 1,000 page views. That's a pretty good number. Another food blog took in a healthy $5,444.72 but took 347,727 page views for it. That's $15.66 per 1,000 page views. Okay too.

As you can see from these numbers, it is not possible to say precisely what a blog earns per page view. The prerequisites and the many small factors are too different for that.

However, for many blogs, the value will probably be between 10 and 20 euros per 1,000 page views. If this is already established, a good topic is being dealt with and is well monetized.

How Much Money Per Comment?

Some even ask me if the comments play a role in the revenue. Comments are important. They show that a blog is alive, give readers further helpful information, convey a sense of community, and are generally necessary for a blog.

However, they do not bring anything directly for the blog income. So you don't make any money per comment.

The Mix Makes It

It isn't very easy to define generally applicable key figures for blogs. These are too different for that.

In my experience, the income per article and 1,000 page views increases, mainly if you use an appropriate mix of sources of revenue. So not just Google AdSense or just advertising.

I use various sources of income in parallel on my blogs and have thus increased the total revenue. In the case of self-employed in the network, I come to a value of around 24 euros per 1,000 page views. Dmitry is delighted with this because the income is also relatively stable.

On my board game blog, it's around 9 euros per 1,000 page views, which is still a little bit. But so far, I've only monetized this blog with Amazon. At Christmas time, however, this value can go up to 15 euros per 1,000 page views.

Blogging also has advantages and disadvantages. The most important thing is that you have a passion for the topic and enjoy writing. These are the two basic requirements for a successful blog.

In addition, you have to invest time in search engine optimization, marketing on the social web, and monetization optimization. Making a blog financially successful takes a lot of work, and you have to take care of all sorts of things.

But if you are willing to invest this time, persevere, and optimize the blog, you can achieve good income in the long term and relative stability.

How Long Does It Take to Make $500 a Month?

Readers keep asking me how long does it take to make $500 a month with your own websites.

Since there are often false expectations, I would like to answer them in this article.

I look at some examples, describe my own experiences and give practical tips for beginners.

10 Months Up to the First $100

My first real website was this blog here, Selbstaendig-im-netz.de. I started it shortly after I started my own business as a web designer.

After about 5 months, I was able to get my first real income with it, which was a kind of awakening experience for me at the time. It was just an indescribable feeling that I was getting money without having a direct customer.

After a good 10 months, I was able to earn $100 a month with my blog for the first time, and from then on, things continued to improve.

Little by little, the income continued to rise, and now I've been able to live on my own websites and blogs for quite some time.

How Long Does It Take To Make Money $500 a Month with Your Own Websites?

Can this question be answered unequivocally? No.

The size of a website's income depends on many factors, and therefore there are big differences.

The first small income is often available very quickly, for many already in the first month.

For many, however, it remains with "pocket money," and the income does not increase any further. I will go into why this is so below. To earn a real income, i.e., $100, you usually have to be patient for a few months or more.

In this article, a blogger describes how she earned around $450 in the first 6 months and had some expenses.

After 3 months, the first intake report appeared here, and there were receipts for a total of around $300.

Important Factors for Making Good Money with Your Own Websites

I keep getting emails from readers who ask me why there aren't any visitors to their websites after 2 weeks and why they still don't deserve anything.

First of all, I can always say that 2 weeks is far too little and that it simply takes longer today to rank well with a new website in Google.

Apart from that, I usually discover other reasons why the income is not working out as I had hoped. How long it takes to make money off of your own websites depends on many factors.

Important Factors

#1 Personal Requirements

Anyone who wants to build a website and earn money with it should really be motivated. I don't mean because of the money, but rather that you want to create a website.

Of course, you also need enough time to invest in your own website. How much depends, among other things, on what your own abilities look like. How well do you know the CMS? What skills do you have as an author? How well do you know SEO? Etc.

Above all, I think it's important to have a positive attitude, learn from mistakes and setbacks, and never give up.

#2 Topic

Of course, the chosen website theme is also an important factor. Good planning is essential to find a topic with good search volume, feasible competition, and interesting monetization opportunities.

But soft factors, such as the visitor's interest in buying, also play an important role here. There are just topics that people just want free information about. With other topics, on the other hand, you come to your own website intending to buy. In the latter case, it is easier to make money.

#3 Engagement

The importance of one's own commitment is often underestimated. It's like doing sports. The more you get involved, the more likely you will see results.

And of course, it also impacts how many articles you write at what time, how good their quality is, how much you care about optimizations, how committed you are to promoting your own website on social media, and so on.

#4 Traffic

Of course, the number of visitors plays a major role. More visitors usually mean more income. That is why it is important to take care of on-page SEO and link building.

But you should also be aware that nowadays, it simply takes a long time to get good rankings * in Google and a correspondingly high number of visitors to Google. No matter how well you optimize your own website.

Of course, it helps if you already have an existing reach, e.g., through other websites, social profiles, or a newsletter.

#5 Sources of Income

Which sources of income you use and how you build them also influence how much money you make. Of course, you shouldn't overdo it and not add an affiliate link to every second word or place banners everywhere.

But you shouldn't be too cautious either. Visitors should stumble across affiliate links, advertising banners, AdSense ads, etc., without being annoyed by them.

#6 Invested Money

Many professionals speed up the normal development of a website by investing money. In addition to outsourcing, to build up the website faster, paid traffic is also a popular measure to attract more visitors, who can then earn money quickly.

Link buying is still a popular method to get a website up on Google faster, but of course, it also involves risks.

#7 Happiness

And luck also takes a bit, if you are honest. You can plan a lot in advance, but how the website develops, in reality, cannot be predicted. Sometimes it just goes faster, sometimes it takes longer.

How Long It Took Me to Get the First Income

I have already described how long it took for "Self-employed on the Net".

On my microphone and podcast tips website, I was able to post the first affiliate income after 3 months. It was still a moderate $4.22. Two months later, it was already $76.06. In the first year, I earned around $600 with this website, and currently, it is around $300 per month.

After a few months, I was able to generate the first income in my board game blog with the Amazon partner program. But it wasn't until a year after the start that I began to build in more affiliate links, and then the income rose significantly.

My Long-Term Strategy

For example, my board game blog, but also self-employed online and my niche websites show, I am not interested in earning money with my own websites as quickly as possible. Instead, I have a long-term strategy.

I have built many websites and blogs since 2007 and now run a good 2 dozen of them. This may seem like a lot to some, while others have many more websites. Everyone has to find out for themselves how many websites they can reasonably operate and maintain. Of course, blogs are a lot more work than a niche website.

The meaning behind it is always the same. By having different websites and using different sources of income there, you lower the risk and increase the income potential.

You can see that again very well, especially in the current Corona crisis.

I have a travel website that has had almost no visitors since the Corona outbreak in Germany. This is understandable since you are currently not going on vacation anyway.

If I only had websites in this area, I would have a problem.

On the other hand, other websites and blogs have benefited from the situation and have more traffic than before.

So you shouldn't put everything on one card. In my experience, the income is later also more stable if you strive for slow and natural growth of a website and do not try to get ahead faster with some tricks.

How Long Does It Take to Be Able to Make a Living from Your Own Website?

Getting started with a website is one thing. When you can make a living from it is a completely different question.

First of all, I have to say that only a relatively few can really make a living from their own websites.

In a survey on my blog, it was just 15% who can make a living from their websites. Another 9% can just make ends meet. Most of them have little or no income.

It took me around 3 years to make a living from my blogs and websites. But I still had web design clients, and it wasn't until a few years later, I ended the client business and started completely on my own websites and blogs.

In addition, the answer to this question naturally also depends on how much money you need to live yourself. Some people are satisfied with a small amount that another would not cover their living expenses with.

In any case, you should take one step at a time. First, try to generate some income with a website and slowly develop from there.

If you go to the first website right from the start with the aim of being able to make a living from it, you will be disappointed quickly and lose motivation.

I am definitely looking forward to your feedback on this article. What are your experiences with making money with your own websites?

How long did it take you to generate your first income, and how long did it take to earn $100 a month?
