Earn 10,000 Euros - is It Easier With Videos, Podcast Episodes or Articles? - There are many ways for creative people to make money on the Internet, but the three most common methods are your own articles, videos, or podcasts.
But with which content is it easier to earn 10,000 euros and which is more difficult? In addition, for many beginners it is exciting to see which types of content can be used to achieve such income faster.
In the following, I will get to the bottom of exactly these questions and use sample invoices and my own experience to show what I consider the easiest option to earn 10,000 euros.
10,000 Euros in Revenue

Why is this about 10,000 euros in revenue? Because it is just a nice round number and if you want to build at least a good part-time job on the Internet, this is certainly a worthwhile goal as an annual income.
But 10,000 euros also sound very high for many beginners, because especially at the beginning you are happy about every single euro you earn. In the long term, such an amount should certainly be the (intermediate) goal, but what kind of content is the easiest to achieve?

Before I talk about specific figures, I would like to point out that it is not just about the money. You should love what you do, because that affects the quality of the content and thus also its success.
If you just like to write but don't like to be in front of the camera, you should write articles and not do other things out of purely financial considerations that are not suitable for them at all. Having fun at your own work is an important success factor.
Although it certainly doesn't hurt to leave your comfort zone and try something different. :-)
But now to the actual topic of this article.
I took a look at what you can earn on average with videos, podcast episodes and articles and on the one hand I draw on my own experience. But I also looked at the numbers of other content creators, although there are of course great fluctuations and exceptions to the rules.
But average values can be read off quite well.
10,000 Euros With Videos
Earning 10,000 euros with videos is certainly the dream of many aspiring YouTubers, but the reality here is unfortunately not so rosy.
YouTube is the platform of choice for most because it is by far the dominant video website. Twitch is also interesting and there are good earning opportunities there, e.g. through subscriptions, but I am concentrating on YouTube here.
I recently analyzed in an article how much you can earn on YouTube per subscriber, view, like and click and that is an average of EUR 1 to EUR 1.50 per 1,000 video views. This means the income from YouTube's own advertising before or in videos.
To earn 10,000 euros with that alone, a total of 6.6 to 10 million video views would be necessary. I think that's a lot of wood. If you look at realistic examples of YouTube channels, it quickly becomes clear that it is by no means that easy to get these video view numbers.
It is also clear that you have to choose a topic that enables a corresponding range. One example is the Hunter and Cron channel, which is by far the most successful German YouTube channel on board games.
The channel has around 52,000 subscribers and a total of around 22.5 million video views to date. And the channel has been around since the end of 2013. So it depends a lot on the topic how many video views are realistic.
In the meantime, you also need 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of playback time for your own videos to even be able to participate in the YouTube advertising program.
However, YouTubers naturally have other sources of income such as affiliate marketing. For example, the mentioned channel could incorporate affiliate links to the presented board games in the video description and thus certainly generate some additional income (and they do that too).
Further income opportunities are the new channel memberships and crowdfunding, e.g. with Patreon.
If the income increases to 3 euros or more per 1,000 views, then the 10,000 euros can of course be achieved with fewer video views. However, it takes a long time on YouTube to build up a corresponding reach.
| Income per 1,000 video views | Required video views for 10,000 euros |
| 1 Euro | 10.000.000 |
| 2 Euro | 5.000.000 |
| 3 Euro | 3.333.333 |
| 4 Euro | 2.500.000 |
| 5 Euro | 2.000.000 |
The more you optimize the sources of income and thus increase the income per 1,000 video views, the fewer views you need. However, there are still quite a few. So it is quite possible to generate good income with YouTube, but the road to get there is long and rocky.
10,000 Euros With Podcast Episodes
It's the golden age of podcasts. There are now a very large number of German podcasts and the number is significantly higher worldwide.
More and more people prefer to listen to audio when they have the time instead of engaging with linear radio. Especially since the variety of topics and also the personal aspect of podcasts is significantly higher.
In contrast to videos, I have to say that in many cases it is easier and faster to record podcast episodes than to shoot videos. However, that depends a lot on the formats, because there are also very complex podcasts.
However, what you can earn per episode as a podcaster fluctuates significantly more than is the case with videos. One of the reasons for this is that there is no dominant platform for podcasts, in contrast to videos, where YouTube dominates everything.
Instead, the podcast world is very fragmented, but there are exciting sources of income for it. Above all, crowdfunding in the form of Patreon or Steady works very well for podcasts. The reason for this is that podcasts are the easiest to offer exclusive content to paying listeners only.
And there is not such a strong media break. If you use Patreon for a podcast, then a paying listener can simply enter a certain RSS feed into their own podcast app and get the exclusive episodes on their smartphone just as easily as the free episodes.
YouTube doesn't have this simple integration, which is why exclusive episodes are much more difficult to get to supporters. Accordingly, there are plenty of podcasts out there making good money with Patreon and Steady.
On average, according to my evaluations, between 5 and 10% of the subscribers to a free podcast are willing to spend an additional few euros per month on additional exclusive episodes.
The most common contribution is $ 5 per month (of which only around 70%, as $ 3.50 (approx. 3 euros), remains for the podcaster).
In order to earn 10,000 euros a year with a podcast on crowdfunding, around 280 Patreon subscribers are necessary, which is not little, but also not excessive.
Certainly there are different subscription levels for many podcasts, from one dollar up to 20 dollars. But on average it is often just these 5 dollars, of which around 3 euros reach the podcaster.
In addition, podcast operators can also use other sources of income, such as affiliate marketing or sponsoring. There are quite a few podcasts that are sponsored by a company and they usually include some advertising at the beginning.
This ensures that the income can be even higher and thus even fewer paying subscribers are needed. On the other hand, it will be difficult to earn 10,000 euros a year for a podcast without using Patreon and / or Steady.
Advertising in podcasts is not yet so widespread and affiliate links usually work much better in videos and, above all, articles.
It should also not be neglected that Patreon subscribers are much more secure and stable, since one is not dependent on Google or YouTube.
Even if it takes time to build up a podcast listener base and you have to offer really interesting exclusive episode content so that many listeners are willing to spend money on it every month, I think it is easier to earn 10,000 euros with a podcast.
10,000 Euros With Articles
Let's get to my main approach, article writing. Many people talk about blogs and websites as dead because supposedly all people are only on social networks or want to watch videos.
But that does not correspond to reality. Even today, a lot of people read articles on the Internet, because especially when you are looking for something specific, want to find information again or need step-by-step instructions, articles are often best.
When it comes to income from articles, the numbers naturally fluctuate a lot. As I recently reported as part of my 1,000 Euro Challenge, the earnings per 1,000 article views are very different.
With some blogs / websites it is 1-2 euros per 1,000 page views. Others earn over 100 euros per 1,000 views. And there are many gradations in between.
With my blogs, the income per 1,000 page views is around 20 euros. In order to earn 10,000 euros, around 500,000 page views are necessary.
| Income per 1,000 page views | Required page views for 10,000 euros |
| 5 Euro | 2.000.000 |
| 10 Euro | 1.000.000 |
| 20 Euro | 500.000 |
| 30 Euro | 333.333 |
| 40 Euro | 250.000 |
| 50 Euro | 200.000 |
The better you monetize your own blog or website, the fewer page views you need to earn 10,000 euros. In addition to advertising and affiliate marketing, VG Wort now also plays a very important role here. There are certainly scenarios where one could live from the VG Wort remuneration alone.
In the autumn of this year there will again be remuneration for the online authors who take part in VG Wort. All articles will be reimbursed that achieved at least 1,500 views in 2019 and that meet additional criteria.
Since the author's remuneration has risen again and is now 40 euros per article, you need at least 250 articles for 10,000 euros for income from VG Wort alone that meet these requirements per year. That would be at least 375,000 hits (1,500 per article), but of course only some of your own articles reach 1,500 hits per year.
In this respect, a blog or website will need at least 500,000 to 1,000,000 page views per year in order to receive 10,000 euros from VG Wort.
But here, too, it can be seen that the use of different sources of income increases the income per 1,000 page views and that overall fewer page views are required to reach 10,000 euros.
I love to write and now I can make a very good living from my blogs and websites. But it takes such a long range to build up and you have to invest a lot of time. You can use the largest selection of sources of income for articles.
Conclusion

If I ignore the preferences of the respective content creators, then I would estimate that the easiest way to make a podcast is to earn 10,000 euros a year. Here you can earn very good income with relatively few people.
Videos and articles, on the other hand, have a higher potential, because the number of users is simply greater there and the selection of sources of income is more extensive.
In the end, however, you can say that you can make good money with videos, podcast episodes and articles, but none of these variants is a walk in the park. You have to invest a lot of work and time before it pays off later.
